“Therapy that fortifies the people who carry others”

For years, I worked alongside nurses, officers, and healthcare staff — people who show up for others, even when they have little left to give. Windmills was created for them — for you — a place to pause, restore, and reconnect with your own clarity and strength.

Windmills, Est. 2018

The Story Behind the Practice

Windmills Mental Health Services was quietly born in 2018—a vision rooted in the belief that calm and clarity can exist even in life’s strongest winds.

Though the practice began modestly, offering virtual sessions to a handful of clients, its purpose became clear during the years of COVID-19. At the time, I was working on the front lines in correctional mental health—a place where the demand for care never stopped, even as the world outside stood still.

I remember coming home each day filled with fear, uncertain what I might bring with me, yet knowing I had to stay strong for my family. I never became ill, but those years changed me. They taught me that strength isn’t found in resistance—it’s found in movement, adaptation, and purpose.

That experience became the heartbeat of Windmills. What began as a few virtual sessions grew into a private, premium practice supporting those who carry others—healthcare workers, first responders, and helping professionals navigating exhaustion, trauma, and change.

Today, Windmills continues to honor that origin—offering therapy that blends professionalism, compassion, and mindful care for those who give their all. Because healing, like the windmill itself, isn’t about avoiding the storm—it’s about turning with it.

Like the windmill, I believe we can all face life’s winds—not with resistance, but with resilience.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, wife, mom, and the heart behind Windmills Mental Health Services.

My passion for mental health began before college—when I first recognized the courage it takes to seek support. That calling deepened as I worked in community mental health centers and psychiatric hospital, helping individuals navigate severe and persistent mental illness and laying the foundation for my clinical expertise.

During nearly a decade serving in correctional mental health, I witnessed not only the challenges of those incarcerated but also the unseen strain on the professionals who served them. I worked alongside nurses, officers, and healthcare staff whose resilience often came at a personal cost. The stress, burnout, and moral injury they carried were real—and often unspoken.

That experience changed everything. It gave me a deep understanding of the emotional toll carried by frontline professionals and a calling to serve them.

Today, as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, I specialize in treating trauma, depression, anxiety, and compassion fatigue—helping frontline professionals restore balance and reconnect with purpose. My approach blends clinical science with holistic practice, offering therapy that is direct, grounded, and restorative.

When I’m not in session or providing clinical supervision, you’ll find me supporting my husband’s business, spending time with family, traveling, or recharging over coffee with close friends. These moments remind me that healing isn’t found only in therapy—it’s also in the everyday lives we create beyond it.

Like the windmill, I believe we can all face life’s winds—not with resistance, but with resilience.
Like the windmill, I believe we can all face life’s winds—not with resistance, but with resilience.
Healing is not about finding calm once the winds stop—it’s about learning to move gracefully within them.
At Windmills, therapy becomes a quiet partnership between strength and stillness, where the helpers, healers, and protectors finally have space to rest, reflect, and restore.
Because even those who carry others deserve a place to lay their own burdens down.
Meet the Therapist

Owner & Therapist

Lourdes Guiardinu,
LCSW-QS
Owner & Therapist
Hi, I’m Lourdes Guiardinu—immigrant, mom, wife, therapist, and supervisor, and the heart behind Windmills Mental Health Services

Our approach to therapy is both clinical and holistic, grounded in evidence-based practices and the belief that the mind, body, and spirit are deeply interconnected. We work with you to address not just symptoms, but the whole person: your emotional health, physical well-being, relationships, environment, and sense of purpose.

Later, my work in corrections expanded my perspective. For nearly a decade, I provided care in some of the most demanding environments, witnessing not only the struggles of incarcerated individuals but also the unspoken toll the field takes on those who serve—nurses, behavioral health staff, medical professionals, and correctional officers. I saw how stress, burnout, and trauma ripple through first responders and high-stress professionals, often without acknowledgment or support. That experience is what cemented my commitment to this population and inspired the heart of Windmills.

Today, my practice is a reflection of that journey: a space where therapy is grounded in evidence-based care, shaped by compassion, and rooted in the belief that we can learn to harness life’s pressures and turn them into momentum for growth.

When I’m not working with clients or providing supervision, I’m supporting my husband in his own business, enjoying time with family, traveling, or recharging over coffee with close friends. These personal connections keep me balanced and remind me that healing happens not only in therapy but also in the lives we build outside of it.

Like the windmill, I believe we all have the power to face the winds of life—not with resistance, but with resilience.

Therapeutic Approaches

At Windmills, therapy is both evidence-based and deeply human.
My work integrates:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – identifying unhelpful thought patterns and building healthier coping strategies.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – learning to move forward by accepting life’s challenges while clarifying values and goals.
  • Mindfulness-Based Practices – grounding in the present moment to reduce stress and build resilience.
  • Trauma-Informed Care – ensuring safety, empowerment, and trust for clients navigating past or ongoing trauma.
  • Strengths-Based & Solution-Focused Approaches – highlighting what’s working and using it to fuel growth.
Every treatment plan is personalized. Modalities are tailored to your unique needs, goals, and pace.
